As part of the Duchy of Cornwall’s estate since its foundation in the14th century, the islands are officially recognised as an “Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty” and as such are a walker’s paradise

The Isles of Scilly are situated 28 mile off the County of Cornwall and are the most South-westerly part of the British Isles.

On the edge of the Gulf Stream, the Scillies attract rare sea life and because of this and the many shipwrecks surrounding the islands are a must for UK divers.

Of the five inhabited islands St.Mary’s is the largest Island, approximately two and a half miles by one and a half miles and is accessible from the UK mainland by ferry, helicopter or aero plane. With off islands just a short boat trip away and normally crystal clear waters, clean beaches and wonderful scenery all around.

St.Mary’s is probably the most popular island not only because of its accessibility but also because it hosts some of the best island walks. The walks can take you around the rugged coast tracks and dramatic carved granite peninsulas allowing you to explore ancient village sites, tombs, fishermen’s cottages, farmhouses and leafy lanes.

The second largest island is Tresco
to the North West of St.Mary’s and is famous for its subtropical Abbey Botanical Gardens. The gardens were started by Augustus Smith in the 1830s in what remains of an old 10th century Benedictine monastery. Abbey Gardens are a magnet for plant and flower enthusiasts and attract visitors eager to see the rare and beautiful, array of plants collected over the years from over 80 countries around the world.

St.Agnes image

St.Agne's is the next largest island and in the summer has a very tranquil feel to it. As the most South-westerly island of the British Isles it has to withstand the many winter South-westerly Atlantic gales and as such has a rugged battered side to the island which makes the scenery even more magical to see.

St .Martin's is the third largest of the islands and is situated to the North from St.Mary’s and is well known for having the finest beaches in the Isles of Scilly.

Bryher has the smallest community of the Isles of Scilly and is situated to the northwest next to the island of Tresco close to the East side of Bryher.

Each of the main islands are steeped their own archaeology and history, unspoilt and un-commercialised. If you seek a holiday with beautiful walks, adventure, boating, natural history or watching wildlife, in peace & tranquility the Scillies are waiting for you to discover them.

Many who discover the Islands return every year, to experience the friendliness and old fashioned charm and that the Islands have to offer.

Helicopter - Travel by helicopter and see the spectacular views of the Scillies as you approach them from above.

Ferry - Sail from Penzance, and take in the spectacular South Cornish coastline as you cruise to the islands. Travel by sea - on `Scillonian III` the Isles of Scilly Ferry.
